Electric Vehicle Traction Drives and Charging Station Power Electronics: Current Status and Challenges

With the need for more environmentally friendly transportation and wide deployment of electric plug-in hybrid vehicles, vehicle (EV) charging stations have become a major issue car manufacturers real challenge researchers all over world. Indeed, high cost battery energy storage, limited EV autonomy lifespan, time, fast infrastructure, significant impact on power grid are origin several research projects focused advanced electronics topologies optimization in terms transfer geographical location. Three levels can be distinguished, which differ output time. The higher level charging, faster process, as is delivered to at expense quality issues disturbances. Moreover, three types systems inductive recharging (contactless transfer), conductive systems, swapping. Additionally, EVs encompass fuel cell (FC) EVs, uses hydrogen primary resources, nowadays under extensive activities academia industry. This review paper aims presenting state art advances architectures traction drives, battery-based stations. Specifically, focus made light-duty vehicles drivetrain specifications, proposed solutions, advantages drawbacks these technologies, perspectives future works smart up-to-date solutions system disturbances mitigation.
